A Prayer to Return to the Lord – Inspired by Hosea 6:1-3

Father God,

I come before You now—broken, weary, and aware of how far I have strayed. Lord, I feel the ache of distance between us, and I long to come home. My soul cries out with the words of Hosea: “Come, let us return to the Lord!” And so I come. Not with pride, not with excuses, but with a heart that knows it needs healing.

Lord,

You have torn me—not out of cruelty, but out of love. You wounded me, not to destroy me, but to wake me up, to draw me back, to cleanse me. And now, You promise to heal. You say that after two days, You will revive. On the third day, You will restore. You promise life in Your presence once again—and Lord, that is what I desire most.

I acknowledge You, God.

I press on to know You—not just in passing, not just on the surface, but deeply, personally, and intimately. You said You would come to me like the rain—gentle, nourishing, life-giving. And I believe You will. Even if the soil of my heart has grown dry and cracked, You are the rain that restores life. You are the Living Water that revives the soul.

Forgive me, Father

—for every time I turned away from You. For every time I chased my own way, trusted in idols, looked to people or possessions or pleasures to fill the emptiness only You were meant to fill. Lord, I confess that I have walked in rebellion, that I have silenced Your voice, that I have hardened my heart.

I let busyness steal my attention, pain convince me You had forgotten me, shame keep me in hiding. I allowed sin to entangle me. And yet, despite it all—You still call me back.

You never stopped loving me,

never stopped watching,

never stopped waiting.

So here I am, Lord,

with all my mess, all my failures, all my wounds—returning. I know You are not a distant God, but a loving Father who longs to bind up the brokenhearted. And I believe Your Word: that You will revive me, restore me, and raise me up to live again in Your presence.

Thank You for not giving up on me. Thank You for every moment You pursued me, even when I was running. Lord, thank You for every tear You caught, every whisper of grace You spoke into my heart when I felt unworthy. Thank You for Your patience, Lord—Your mercy is beyond anything I deserve.

Father,

I repent, I turn away from the things that led me away from You. I renounce every sin, every idol, every false comfort I’ve run to. Jesus, I ask You to cleanse me from the inside out. Purify my thoughts. Renew my heart. Restore the joy of my salvation.

Help me to press in—not just today, not just when things are hard—but every single day. Teach me to seek You diligently. Let me crave Your presence more than anything the world could offer.

Lord,

I ask for revival—not just in my circumstances, but in my spirit. Breathe new life into what has grown cold. Light a fire in me that cannot be quenched. Restore the intimacy I once had with You. Or if I’ve never known it, Father, then let me taste it for the first time—real, living, consuming relationship with You.

I don’t just want

a religious habit—I want a holy hunger,

to just know about You—I want to walk with You,

to keep running in cycles—I want to be transformed.

Your Word says that as surely as the sun rises, You will appear. And I believe that. Even if I don’t see it yet, I trust that You are working. Even when I don’t feel it, I believe Your Spirit is drawing me deeper. Because You are faithful, You are near, You are good.

So I surrender, Lord.

I surrender my will.

My fears.

And my past.

I lay it all at Your feet and I say: “Have Your way in me.”

I choose to return.

And not just with words—but with my life. I give You my heart again. I give You my time, my thoughts, my obedience, my affection. Jesus, I commit to walk with You daily, to acknowledge You in every area, to press on when I feel weak, and to seek You with all I have.

You said You’d come like the spring rains. I believe You are raining down grace even now. Wash over me, Jesus. Let Your presence soften what’s been hardened, let Your Spirit drench every dry place in me. Let Your mercy flow over every failure, and let Your peace fall like rain on every anxious thought.

And when You restore me, Lord—help me not to forget. Help me not to wander again. Help me not to grow complacent or arrogant or distracted. Keep me near to You. Keep my heart soft. Jesus, Keep my eyes fixed on You.

Let me live in a way that honors You.

May my life reflect the miracle of Your mercy.

Let my mouth speak of Your goodness.

May my story testify of restoration.

Lord,

for the one reading this who feels like it’s too late—I pray You would whisper to them now: “It’s not too late. Come home.”

Lord, For the one who feels too broken—I pray You’d remind them: “I am the Healer.”

For the one who feels numb and distant—I ask that You stir their heart to feel again.

And for the one who has tried to come back before but keeps falling—I pray You give them strength to press on, to rise again, to trust that You are faithful to finish what You started.

We are all in need of Your grace, Lord. Every one of us. Let none of us pretend we’ve arrived. Let us walk humbly and honestly, always returning to You—not just once, but again and again, as often as we need.

And I thank You, Jesus,

for the cross—that because of Your sacrifice, there is no separation too great, no sin too dark, no shame too deep, that Your love cannot redeem.

You rose on the third day—and because You live, I can live too. I receive Your resurrection power today. I receive Your grace, Your forgiveness, Your healing.

So let revival begin in me. Let it begin now.

And as You restore me, Lord, use me to be a light for others who need to return. Let my life be a witness that no one is too far gone. Let my words be filled with compassion, my actions reflect Your mercy, and my heart remain soft and surrendered.

Thank You, Father,

for Your unfailing love. Thank You for calling me back.

I return to You now.

And I will keep returning—again and again—because there is no place I’d rather be than with You.

In Jesus’ mighty, merciful, restoring name I pray, Amen.
